How I started out as a Freelancer!

So we all have had the dream of being our own boss someday, being able to work at our own pace, being able to work in our PJ’s from our home! And I was no different. I always felt that I was missing something during my corporate job years and when I landed on the possibility of freelancing as a career, it was an eye opener for me! I never thought I was capable of doing so many different things by myself all at the same time. What started as an outlet for creativity, quickly become so much more than that! So, Anyways let me start from the beginning.

My freelancing journey started during covid and lockdown phase, I was working from home for my corporate job and wanted to do something creative in my free time. And that’s when I stumbled upon graphic design. I had always been a creative soul and when I found more about graphic design, I just fell in love with it. And thus began my journey of being a designer.

I knew if I wanted to do something in this field I had to work really really hard and start from the basics. So I purchased graphic design books, online courses and watched YouTube videos to learn as much as I could. I started designing logos and graphics for local businesses in my area and when they loved it, it gave me the motivation to deep dive into this field. I kept learning and growing, and I also knew that this learning process would take time and if I wanted to know how good I was at it then I will have to put my work out there for people. And so I created my design Instagram account.

After launching my Instagram account, I stumbled upon Kristy from Pink Pony creative, and seeing her journey was the motivation I needed to start off with the 100 days design challenge. If you guys go and check my work from that time, its not very good, and I used to frequently judge and doubt myself. But since I had just started, I realized I would achieve nothing by being so hard on myself. So I pushed all the negativity aside and without keeping any expectations from this new journey, I just kept going. Nearly 7–8 months after launching my Instagram account and putting in countless hours of learning through videos, books and courses, I finally started seeing growth on my Instagram along with a business enquiries from all around the world. And as they say the rest is history!

Being able to run this business successfully gave me so much confidence and self worth. I was so proud of being an “Army of One” doing each and every task by myself. The confidence this gave me resulted in me working on many more things and even launching my YouTube channel, so that I can share some of the things I have learned along the way.

I understand that running a business all by yourself can be overwhelming and you might feel like giving up, but if my journey has taught me anything, it is that no matter how hard things get, if you are following your passion then never give up! You can always take a break and come back at it with twice the effort.

Also I welcome you all to be a part of this blogging journey, I intend to keep things real and present the good, the bad and the ugly of the freelancing world in front of you guys. As the name suggests all the blogs here are just “stories of a freelancer”, and if you are somebody who enjoys stories or is looking for insights on the freelancing world then follow along!

See you all in the next blog! Tadaa✨
